How to Make Coffee Soap

Step 1:

Start by making the lye coffee solution. Add the cooled coffee to a container, then carefully add the lye. Stir until fully dissolved. It will give off a burned coffee smell. Set it aside in a cool area.

Step 2:

In a large pot, add the oils and butter. Place the pot over medium-low heat and heat until the shea butter is fully melted. Set aside to cool.

Step 3:

Once both mixtures have cooled to about 100 to 115 degrees, it’s time to blend. Pour the lye water into the pot with the oils. Mix with your stick blender until you reach a trace. Trace means everything is emulsified and is no longer able to separate.

Step 4:

Add coffee grounds, fragrance, and color if using, then quickly pour into the soap mold. Cure in the mold for 1 to 2 full days, then carefully remove it. Slice into bars, then store in a well-ventilated space. It needs to be cured for at least 3 weeks before it is ready to use.
