Ingredients:
Icing
Directions:
Prepare all the needed ingredients.
Add 1 tbsp of sugar to lukewarm milk in a measuring cup. Mix well until the sugar dissolves. Then, add 2 ½ tsp of yeast, mix, and set aside to activate.
In a large mixing bowl, add 300g of plain flour or all-purpose flour, 1 tbsp of sugar, and ½ tsp of salt. Mix well until evenly combined.
Next, add 40g of melted butter, ½ tsp vanilla extract, 1 egg, and the yeast mixture.
Whisk all the ingredients using a hand mixer on low speed until they come together. Then, gradually increase the speed and beat for 10 minutes until you make it into a dough.
Grease the counter’s surface with some oil and lightly knead the dough for a couple minutes.
Lightly grease some oil in a mixing bowl and add the dough. Cover the bowl with plastic cling film and let it rest for an hour or until the dough doubles in size. When the dough has risen, transfer the dough to a floured counter so the dough will not stick.
Use a rolling pin to roll out the dough into a thickness of 4-5 mm. Then, cut out hearts in the dough using a heart-shaped cookie cutter. Place the heart-shaped dough on a lined baking tray with parchment paper in rows. Cut the paper for each heart to make it easier to handle while deep frying.
Cover the tray with plastic cling film and let it rest for 20 minutes.
In an oil-filled heated pan, gently lift the heart dough from the paper and drop them in the heated oil. Flip until the dough turns a light golden brown. When done, strain to remove them and let them cool on a paper towel. The paper towel will soak up the excess unwanted oil.
Add 100g of icing or powdered sugar and ½ tsp of vanilla in a mixing bowl to make the icing. Then, add 1 ½ tbsp of milk and whisk until well combined. Pour the icing into two different portions. Add food coloring as desired.
Using a spatula or a butter knife, coat the doughnuts in icing and add some sprinkles.
Serve and enjoy!
