Materials:

  • 2 packs of 5″ squares (charm pack)
  • 1 yard border fabric
  • 3 1/2 yard backing or wide fabrics
  • 2 7/8 yard background fabric
  • 1/2 yard binding

Directions:

Step 1

Take your background yardage and cut it into some 8″ squares. Next, take the two charm packs, take two matching colors out of each one, then back each of those with a 5″ square of fusible. Once done, press them in half, then take the printed paper template (see free template above), put the dashed edge along the fold of the square, and then trace it. To make the process faster, tuck them inside each other, then cut them out together. Now you have two hearts cut out. You’ll need two of these on every single block you’ll make.

Step 2

Now, take your background square, and fold it in half on the diagonal. Take the heart, peel it off, then line up the center of the heart, leaving half an inch from the bottom edge. Place the other heart on the opposite side. Press nicely afterwards.

Step 3

To make the orange peels, fuse the back of your white fabric, use your mini orange peel template, and cut out one after another that you need. Once done, peel them and place one orange peel on each, lining them up with the bottom point of the heart. Press them in place afterwards. Now, do some top stitching to secure them in place. To finish the block, lay 4 into a four-patch, making sure the center will kind of create a flower.
