Since I started growing my hydroponic cilantro a whole new world has opened up for me. When I found this amazing video tutorial by  Hodune on YouTube I was so excited because it shows us exactly how to grow food from scraps, and how to plant and nurture the edible plants. I have been saving water bottles for a while now so I had plenty to get this project going. Then, I went to Sprouts market and bought all the vegetables shown in this video and I was ready to get started. The greatest thing about this video is the fact that it takes you through the process of making your starter plants as well as how to set up the containers.

Materials:

  • Vegetables from the grocery store (celery, romaine lettuce, cabbage, and green onion)
  • A water large bottle (just about any water bottle will work, you just need the top to fit into the bottom to make a planter)
  • A paper towel (for a watering wick)
  • Food scissors
  • A knife
  • Water
  • Toothpicks

Directions:

In this amazing hydroponic growing video tutorial by Hodone on YouTube, you will learn how to grow food from scraps by constructing self-watering containers that you make from plastic water bottles. You will make a hole in the bottle cap, then insert a piece of paper towel to serve as your self-watering wick.
