Easy Great Northern Beans Ingredients
- 1 pound bag of dried great northern beans (picked and washed)
- 2 smoked ham hocks (washed)
- 1 teaspoon salt
- 1 teaspoon sugar
- 1/2 teaspoon black pepper
- water or chicken broth
Notes:
- Make sure to remove stones or discolored beans from your beans
- If you prefer not to use the ham hocks you can use Goya ham flavoring packets
How to Make Great Northern Beans
Step 1:
Place the two ham hocks and 1 pound of dried great northern beans in your crockpot. Turn the crockpot on high setting.
Step 2:
Add one teaspoon of salt, one teaspoon of sugar, and one-half teaspoon of black pepper.
Step 3:
Fill the crockpot with water to the top of the rim. Place the lid and cook the beans and ham hocks on high heat for 8 to 10 hours or overnight.
Step 4:
Once done cooking, take the lid off and remove the fat(optional) and bones from the ham hocks using two forks. Add more water and mix. Turn the heat to low and place the lid back. Cook for 2 hours more.
Step 5:
Serve with cornbread and enjoy!
