This good fortune quilt is just one of the beautiful patterns from the Missouri Star. You can make two different blocks with this piece just by changing the directions of the sashing! I had so much fun making this project. I definitely recommend this if you want to learn different quilting techniques.

Cut the 10″ print and background squares in the middle vertically and horizontally to get four pieces of 5″ squares.
Arrange the 5″ squares into a 9-patch just like in the photo below. Sew them together with a quarter of an inch seam allowance. Once done, press it flat. Repeat with the other squares.
Get one of the 9-patch blocks and cut at 2 1/4″ from the seam edge in both directions to make four squares. Repeat with the other blocks.
To make the sashing, cut a piece of blue and gray that is 7″ by 2 1/2″. Take 4 pieces of 2 1/2″ background square. Put 2 on both ends of the gray strip. Sew the top first diagonally from corner to corner, then do the bottom. Make sure you sew them in the same direction. Cut 1/4″ away from the seam and press it open. Do the same with the blue strip, but sew the white squares in the exact opposite direction. Once done, sew the blue and white strip units together with a quarter of an inch seam allowance.
Cut blue and gray 2 1/2″ strips and sew them together. After that, cut them into 2 1/2″ intervals. Finger-press them with gray on the top. Sew two pieces together to make a four-patch. Make sure the colors are alternating. You need 20 of this block.
Get 4 of the disappearing nine-patch blocks and turn them so that the big square is facing the middle. Next, add the sashing blocks in between the blocks. Lastly, put the four-patch in the middle. Sew them together with a quarter of an inch seam allowance.
