Ready for an exciting sewing project? Here’s a garden stars quilt tutorial by Missouri Star. Isn’t this pattern beautiful? I love that it is filled with a lot of stars. It may look like the quilt is made of two blocks, but it isn’t. You will only need to make one block, which is a friendship star pattern with four patches on the corners.

When you sew the sashing strips and the 2 1/2″ square together, they will form a small star in the middle. It is not as hard as it looks, I promise. You will only need to make four patches and half-square triangles for the main block. Jenny Doan will even teach you how to easily make the four patches using the scrappy four-patch method.

Make the half-square triangles. Take two charms from your pack. Get one and place a 5″ background square on top of it. Place a ruler diagonally from corner to corner and draw a line. Sew 1/4″ away from both sides of the line. Cut directly on the line and press open towards the dark side. Trim them into 4 1/2″ squares. Repeat with the other 5″ square to make 4 half-square triangles.
Make a four patch. Take one 5″ colored square and one 5″ background square. Place them right sides together. Sew just on the sides. Cut directly in half parallel to your seams. Press them open toward the dark side. Make a bunch of these and sew them together in a row, making sure they are alternating. Trim off the first 2 1/4″ inches, then cut 2 1/4″ from the next seam line to make the four patches. Repeat until you finish the whole row.
Assemble the block. Get a 4 1/2″ printed square, 4 half square triangles, and 4 four-patches. Arrange them just like in the photo below then sew them together.
Cut 12 1/2″ background strips for your sashing. Get one strip and 2 pieces of 2 1/2″ printed squares. Fold the small squares in half diagonally, place them right side down on the ends of the strip, and sew on the line. Make sure they are in the same direction. Repeat with the other strips. You will put them in between each block. When you put the rows together, you will use the same sashing but you will put 2 1/2″ squares the same color as the one on the ends.
