And if your budget is tight, this dish is inexpensive to make and only needs ingredients that might already be in your kitchen. It’s one of my favorite chicken recipes, and you’ll see why when you check out the video below! Learn the step by step instructions by watching the video or reading the full written instructions.
Season the chicken breasts with salt and ground black pepper to taste and 1 tsp thyme on both sides. Next, heat some cooking oil in a large pan and add the chicken. Sear on both sides just until they’re cooked through, then set them aside. In the same pan, add some oil and melt 2 tbsp of butter. Once the butter melts, add the sliced white onions—Saute for a few minutes or until they’re browned. After 15 minutes, stir 2 tbsp of flour and mix until the flour is no longer visible.

Next, add 1 1/2 cups of beef broth, a bit more thyme, salt, and ground black pepper. Mix well and let it come to a boil. Once boiling, add the chicken breasts back to the pan, and let them simmer for about 15 to 20 minutes. (Spoon the sauce periodically into the chicken breasts.) After 20 minutes, add a piece of Swiss cheese over each chicken breast, place the lid on, and let the cheese melt down. Garnish with some chopped green onions and serve. Enjoy!
