Are you looking for your next quilting project? How about this flying home quilt from Missouri Star on YouTube? This quilt is so fun to make; I cannot count the times I’ve made it for my loved ones. I also love how simple it is yet looks so classic. This will surely look good on any fabric pattern, so you can be as creative as you like. Watch the video tutorial below to learn the step by step instructions.

Materials:

  • 1 jelly roll
  • 1 3/4 yards of background fabric
  • 1 1/4 yards of outer border fabric
  • 4 yards of backing fabric

Directions:

Step 1

Stack your strips and subcut them into two 8 1/2″ pieces, then cut the remaining into eight 2 1/2″ square pieces. After this, cut your background fabric into sixteen 2 1/2″ strips. Then, subcut each background strip into 2 1/2″ x 4 1/2″ rectangles. Now, take four of the 2 1/2″ x 4 1/2″ rectangles and four 2 1/2″ squares. Sew them side to side, right into the center from corner to corner, creating one side of the geese. Now, lay your ruler on top of the square, about a quarter of an inch on the other side, and trim all the geese off. Press them afterward.

Step 2

After pressing, lay the contrasting 2 1/2″ squares on the other side and sew from side to side on each block. After sewing, trim off the sides again to complete the geese. Press them afterward. Now, line up the geese blocks into a row of four, sew them together, then press them flat. After this, sew one 8 1/2″ rectangle on each side that corresponds to the color of the geese to complete the block. Repeat these steps to create more blocks. Once you have enough, lay them out in a row of six blocks, rotating every other block.
