At first glance, you’d think that this quilt block is difficult to piece together, but you’ll surely change your mind once you see this video tutorial by Carol Thelen on YouTube which shows an easy and simple approach to making this quilt block. The step-by-step instructions are super easy to follow and this project only requires 3 kinds of fabric of your choice, you can have fun with the colors and patterns if you want. Enjoy quilting!
Step 1
Cut the fabric pieces as instructed in the pattern, then group them into 5 sections, and label them A, B, C, D, and E. Take fabric E and fabric A, then layer them together with their right sides facing, and sew them at the top with a ¼ inch seam allowance. Press the piece open, then trim off the excess fabric or dog ears, and then lay the fabric D on top with their right sides facing. Sew them together and press them open, then set them aside, and start piecing the next fabric unit.

Step 2
Now, take fabric B and fabric A, then lay them together with their right sides facing, sew, and press them open. Grab fabric C, then lay it over the AB unit with their right sides facing, and sew them together. Press the unit open, then grab the ABC and ADE unit, lay them together with their right sides facing, and sew them together with a ¼ inch seam allowance.
Step 3
Repeat the same process to make the rest of the unit, then once done, lay and assemble them together to make a larger block as instructed in the pattern and as shown in the video. Stitch the two units at the top first, then sew the bottom units, and press them open. Finally, sew the two pieced units together, then press, and you’re done!
