Ingredients:

  • 1 cup of warm water
  • 2 tsp instant yeast
  • 1 egg
  • 2 tbsp sugar
  • 3 & 1/4 cups of all-purpose flour
  • 1 tsp salt
  • 3 tbsp butter, unsalted
  • 3 cups oil for frying
  • granulated sugar for coating

Directions:

Step 1

In a bowl, add 1 cup of warm water, 2 tsp instant yeast, 1 egg, and 2 tbsp sugar. Mix well. Next, add 3 & 1/4 cups of all-purpose flour and 1 tsp salt. Continue mixing until dough forms. Cover it for 20 minutes to let the gluten develop. After 20 minutes, uncover it and mix in 3 tbsp butter. Knead the dough until the butter is fully incorporated. Transfer it to a floured surface and continue to knead until it’s smooth and elastic, around seven minutes. After this, place it in a greased bowl and cover it for an hour to let it rise.

Step 2

Deflate the dough after an hour by punching out the gas. Transfer the dough to your working surface and roll it out to a rectangular shape. Trim the sides and divide the dough into 12 equal pieces. After this, get a piece and roll the ends in opposite directions, fold them in half, then twist them. Pinch the end to seal. Repeat the process with the rest of the dough, then place them on a floured baking tray. Cover them for 20 minutes. Deep fry them over medium-low heat until golden brown. After frying, let them rest for a bit, then coat them with sugar.
