Easy Summer Fireworks Quilt

July 4th is just right around the corner! Here’s a super easy and quick summer fireworks quilt by Brita Nelson the Questioning Quilter on Youtube. This is my favorite patriotic block so far – I super love the red and blue pinwheel stars. It’s perfect for beginners or if you just want something that can be finished in an hour or so. - 1/2 yard of red fabric
- 1/2 yard of blue fabric
- 1 yard of white fabric

Instructions:
Step 1:
Cut several pieces of red, white, and blue squares from the fabrics and make two red and white half-square triangles and 2 blue and white half-square triangles. Each HST block is 5″ x 5″ (unfinished), but you can choose whatever size you like.
Step 2:
Arrange the blocks. Get one red-white HST – the red triangle should be on the bottom left. Place one blue-white HST beside it with the blue triangle still in the left corner. Next, place another red-white HST on the bottom of the first red-white HST. The red triangles should connect to form a diamond. Do the same with the remaining blue-white HST. Both diamonds should slant to the left. Sew them together in diamonds first, then after that, sew them together to create a harlequin block.
Step 3:
Arrange four harlequin blocks with blue corners to the center. Sew them together and flatten them to make a pinwheel star motif. When you sew the multiple motifs together, the red pinwheel starts to emerge. For this quilt, there are only 20 blocks arranged 4 down by 5 across and each block is 9″ x 9″ finished.
