Having a delicious mealtime with my family is one of the best parts of the day that I always look forward to. I make sure to serve a loaded and satisfying dish that would surely make us full even if we’re on a budget or we don’t have much time to prepare food. In that case, my go-to recipe is a classic Southern dish that is also a staple in almost every household, and one of the best versions I have ever tried is this one by Soul Food Cooking on YouTube.
Step 1
Rinse the string beans, then cut them in half, and set them aside while allowing them to drain all of the excess water. Rinse the potatoes, then cut them into quarters, and set them aside to drain off all the excess water. Place a frying pan on a stove over medium-high heat, then add the chopped bacon pieces, and fry them for about 7 minutes or until crispy. Remove the bacon from the pan using a slotted spoon, then transfer them to a plate lined with a paper towel to drain off all the excess grease, and set them aside for later.

Step 2
Place a separate pan on a stove over medium-high heat, then add the beans, broth, and water, and allow them to cook for about 5 minutes. Once done cooking for a few minutes, add the chopped onions, garlic powder, salt, and pepper, then cover the pan with the lid, and allow them to cook for about 30 minutes while stirring occasionally. After half an hour of cooking the beans, add the potatoes and cooked bacon, then cover it with the lid again, and continue to cook them for 1 more hour while stirring occasionally.
