This green beans and potatoes by Soul Food Cooking on YouTube is the easiest recipe to prepare yet the most delicious and flavorful I’ve ever tried! Truly the best soul foods are the ones that are the most simple, just like this one, it only requires green beans, potatoes, and bacon, but it tastes so yummy that you’d think this had a lot of ingredients.

Ingredients:

  • 2 pounds of green beans
  • 5 pieces of red potatoes, sliced into small cube pieces
  • 1 cup of onion, diced
  • 1 clove of garlic, diced
  • 10 slices of bacon, chopped into small pieces
  • 3½ cups of chicken broth
  • 2 cups of water
  • ½ tsp of garlic powder
  • ½ tsp of onion powder
  • 1½ tsp of salt
  • 2 tsp of black pepper

Directions:

Step 1

Place a dutch oven on a stove over medium-high heat, then add the bacon, and cook for about 5 minutes or until nice and crispy.  Remove the bacon and leave the rendered bacon grease, then set it aside until later. In the same dutch oven, add the onion and garlic, then give them a nice toss, and saute for about 2 minutes before adding the green beans. After adding the beans, pour the water and chicken broth, then stir them together, and bring to a light boil.

After cooking for half an hour, add the potatoes, bacon, and the remaining teaspoon of black pepper, then stir them well and cover with the lid. Let them cook for an additional hour making sure to stir occasionally, then serve, and enjoy!
