This easy-to-follow video tutorial by Fat Quarter Shop on YouTube will teach you how to make a beautiful butterfly quilt block. You can make several blocks that are different from each other by mixing and matching different colors and patterns of fabric. What’s even better is that you can make this quilt in different sizes, too. Check out the video tutorial now and learn how to do this quilt. Enjoy!

Materials:

  • 9 fat quarters darker prints
  • 9 fat quarters lighter prints
  • 1½ yards of white fabric
  • 1¼ yards of border fabric
  • 2/3 yard of binding fabric
  • 4¾ yards of backing fabric
  • 84″ x 84″ of batting fabric
  • Marking pen, pencil, or chalk
  • Scissors or rotary cutter and a cutting mat
  • Iron, for pressing
  • Needle and thread
  • Sewing machine
  • Pattern (Click here to download the pattern)

Directions:

Step 1

Cut the fabric pieces according to the pattern requirements, then organize and group them together, and label them accordingly so you don’t mix or confuse them. Take the square fabric pieces, then line the wrong side of the square diagonally from corner to corner, and lay 2 marked squares on opposite corners of the rectangle fabric with their right sides facing. Stitch right next to the line, then trim off the excess and press them open.

Step 2

Repeat the same process with the remaining fabric and piece them together according to the guide, then once done, assemble them together to form the block making sure that the units on each side mirrored each other nicely, and start sewing them together one at a time. Once done sewing the units, stitch them together, then add the border around your block, and you’re done!
