Ingredients:

  • 2 pounds of 80/20 ground chuck
  • ½ cup of bread crumbs
  • 1 egg
  • ½ cup of milk
  • 1 tsp of salt
  • 1 tsp of black pepper
  • 2 tbsp of dried minced onion
  • 1 tbsp of beef base
  • 2 tbsp of Worcestershire sauce
  • 2 medium yellow onions, chopped or sliced
  • 2 cups of sliced mushrooms
  • 4 cups of water
  • 2 tbsp of corn starch, plus 2 tbsp of water, to make a slurry

Directions:

Step 1

In a large mixing bowl, add the egg, milk, bread crumbs, Worcestershire, dried onions, black pepper, and salt, then mix them together until well combined, add the ground beef, and continue mixing until incorporated and fully combined. Once done mixing, start shaping the mixture into oval patties, burgers, or meatballs, and set them aside. Place a large skillet on a stove over medium heat, then add the beef, and cook them for about 2 minutes on each side or until brown. After cooking all of the beef patties, remove them from the pan, and set them aside.

Step 2

In the same pan, add the onions and mushrooms, then give them a good stir, and saute them for about 2 to 3 minutes or until translucent. Pour the water and add the beef base, then bring the mixture to a boil until the beef base is dissolved, and then give it a good stir. Put back the cooked patties into the skillet, then return it to a simmer, cover with the lid, and cook over low heat for about an hour. After 1 hour, add the cornstarch slurry, then give it a good mix until well combined, smooth, and the gravy has thickened. Serve and enjoy!
