We’ve all been beginner quilters before and we have our favorite blocks, mine was anything that involves fabric scraps and flower patterns, just like this block idea by The Melody of Sewing on YouTube. You can make this block look as scrappy as you want and bust out all of those leftover fabrics that you had from previous quilt projects.

Step 1
Cut 8 squares of fabric in different colors at 4×4 inches, then pair 2 together, and stack them with their right sides facing and edges matching. Line the back of the fabric in half diagonally in half from corner to corner, then line ½ inch right neck to it, and pin them securely in place.
Step 2
Stitch them along the marked lines, then cut them apart, press them open, and cut off the nubs. Cut 8 squares of fabric in different colors at 4×4 inches, then cut 16 background fabric into 2×2 inches squares, and line the back of the background squares diagonally in half.

Step 3
Place the background squares on the upper corners of each large square, then position them so that the marked lines are meeting at the top center as shown in the video, and stitch them along the marked lines.
Step 4
Trim off the excess layers with ¼ inch seam allowance, then press the fabric open, and lay out the blocks as shown in the video. Once everything is assembled, stitch the block units together one at a time and press the seams as you go.
