This quilt project by Carol Thelen on YouTube is a beautiful illusion quilt that you’ll surely enjoy looking at, the pattern and waves that this quilt has looks like it is actually moving but it’s not. You would also think at first that this project is a difficult and complicated one, but once you’ve watched the video tutorial and seen the pattern guide, you’ll surely change your mind.
Step 1
Using fabric 1 and the background strips, piece them together to make the strip sets required, then sub-cut them into ¼ inches, and piece them together to make 9-patch units. Piece the 9-patch units together with the background units as shown in the pattern guide, then repeat with the rest, and set them aside.
Step 2
To make the stretched 9-patch block, sew fabric 1 with the background fabrics to make the required strip units, then sub-cut them into 2 inches each, and proceed to make another set of strips using fabric 1 and the background fabrics.

Step 3
Subcut the set, then sew the pieces together, and repeat with the remaining pieces. For the last block or double 9-patch variation, make 2 different strip sets for each block, then sub-cut them into segments for the 9-patch units, and use those segments from strips 2 and 1 to assemble the 9-patch units.
Step 4
Using the five 9-patch units and four 5¾” background squares, assemble the blocks, then sew them together, and repeat with the rest of the pieces. Sew the blocks together, then add the border, batting, and backing fabric, and then finish your quilt however you want.
