A few weeks ago, while browsing the internet randomly, I stumbled upon a cute turtle planter that I thought would look incredibly adorable with my succulents. However, they were too expensive and I don’t think I can spend that much on a few pieces, so I wondered if there is any alternative that I can choose at a more inexpensive price. That is when I found this video tutorial by Art From Inside on YouTube and I immediately fell in love with this project. It is super easy to make and fun to put together, plus, it is made out of an old egg carton.
Step 1
Cut the two cups of an egg carton, then cut a small part off the bottom center of one cup, and leave the other cup intact. Mix together some putty and water to make thick and dry clay-like consistency, then apply it around the outside of each egg cup, and smoothen them out as you go. Let them dry completely until set and solid, then lay them together so that their edges are lined up nicely, and shape the small piece of wire as shown in the video.

Step 2
Place the wire anywhere in the center of the sides, then seal the edges with putty, and set it aside to dry until solid. Cover the wire with putty and shape the head, then attach 2 small round pieces of putty at the top of the head for the eyes, and create the feet and tail as shown in the video. Make sure that part with the hole is facing up throughout the process, then once dried completely, start painting the turtle however you like, and let it dry. Place the plant inside the hole of the turtle’s shell, then display your planter anywhere, and you’re done!
