Materials Needed for Carpenter’s Wheel Quilt:

  • Green fabric
  • Red fabric
  • Background fabric
  • Marking pen, pencil, or chalk
  • Ruler
  • Scissors or rotary cutter and a cutting mat
  • Needle and thread
  • Iron, for pressing
  • Sewing machine

How to Make Carpenter’s Wheel Quilt:

Step 1

Cut the fabrics for the half-square triangles into 3⅝ squares then the rest of the squares into 3¼ squares. Lay together the green and background squares with their right sides facing, then line the back of the fabric diagonally in the center from corner to corner, and stitch them on either side of the line with ¼ inch seam allowance. Cut the piece apart in half, then press the seams open, and cut off the nubs.

Step 2

Repeat the same for the remaining 3⅝ squares, and make red and green half-square triangles, and background and red half-square triangles. Lay the units into a block as shown in the video, then stitch them per row, and then the rows to each other. Press the seams as you go, then continue to make more blocks, and finish your quilt however you want.
