This lovely quilt block tutorial by Jenny Doan via Missouri Star on YouTube is super fun and quite easy to make. What’s even better is that you can also learn how to make a simple pillowcase in this video tutorial, too. So proceed to the instructions down below and give this project a try now. I hope you enjoy this quilt block pattern as much as I did!

Materials:

  • 2 packs of 5″ print squares
  • 2 packs of 5″ background squares
  • ½ yard of fabric, for the inner border
  • 1¼ yards of fabric, for the outer border
  • ¾ yard of binding fabric
  • 4¼ yards of backing fabric
  • Ruler
  • Marking pen, pencil, or chalk
  • Scissors or rotary cutter and a cutting mat
  • Needle and thread
  • Iron, for pressing
  • Sewing machine

Directions:

Step 1

Cut the fabric to size, then pair 1 background square and 1 print square together with their right sides facing, and then draw a diagonal line on the wrong side of the fabric from corner to corner. Sew them together with ¼ inch seam allowance on both sides of the marking line, then cut along the line, and press them open. Trim off the excess fabric, then create more half-square triangles, and make the sashing next.

Step 2

Lay together 1 background square and 1 print square with their right sides facing, then sew them down each side, and then cut them in half in both directions. Make another set of sashing, then press them open, and trim as needed. Sew the half-square triangles and sashing together, then make sure to press every now and then, cut a piece of fabric square for the center and sew it as well. Now, make more blocks, then assemble them together however you want, and you’re done!
