At first, I thought petal drawstring bags are difficult to make, not until I found this video tutorial by The Sewing Castle on YouTube, and learned her easy-step-by-step instructions that helped me finish sewing the gift bag in just a few minutes. If you want to learn how to make one of these, then read the written steps down below, and watch the video tutorial as well.

Materials:

  • Exterior fabric
  • Lining fabric
  • Small piece of fabric
  • Strap or string
  • Needle and thread
  • Scissors
  • Poly-fil fiberfill

Directions:

Step 1

Cut the fabrics required according to the size shown in the video, then lay the square fabrics together with their right sides facing, and stitch around with ¼ inch seam allowance making sure to leave an opening for turning later. Trim off the corners, then turn it right side out, and poke the corners nicely. Give it a good press, then sew the opening shut, and fold four corners in as shown in the video.

Step 2

Sew along the edges of each corner diagonally with a ¼ inch seam allowance, then insert the strap through the holes on each side, then insert another strap opposite to the first one, and fold the patchwork in half. Stitch the short sides, then open the fabric, fold it the other way, and stitch the other short sides. Cut a small piece of fabric, then fold it in half, and sew the edges together. Tie the ends of the strap in a knot, then gather the ends of the short fabric, and insert the knot end of the strap. Pull the thread tightly and sew it a few times to lock them in place, then pull the small fabric over, and fill it with poly-fil fiberfill before sewing the edges close.
