Easy Origami Quilt Block Tutorial

This technique is also known as fabric manipulation and it’s not as difficult to do as you may think. Initially, I also thought that this project by Teresa DownUnder on YouTube would be too complicated, but I never say no to a challenge so I gave it a try!

It was surprisingly easy to make though confusing at first and it is super fun and satisfying once you see the shape slowly come to life. It is one of the best things I did for the week and I’d gladly do it again for future projects. Learn how now by reading the instructions below and watching the video tutorial as well.
Materials for Origami Quilt Block:
- White fabric
- Small buttons or beads
- Marking pen or pencil
- Needle and thread
- Scissors
- Ruler
- Iron, for pressing
- Fabric pins
How to Make an Origami Quilt Block:
Step 1
Cut the white fabric into an 18-inch square, then draw a grid at 2-inch intervals, and sew 4 dots together as shown in the video. Pick up a stitch at each dot, then pull all the stitches together, and do a double stitch with care to anchor the stitch in place.
Step 2
Cut off the excess thread, then continue stitching 4 dots together until you finish the grid, and push any extra folds to the back of the piece. Fix the fold at the back and crease the seams properly, then fold the two tucks together to meet in the middle, and pin them in place.
Step 3
Alternate the folding in opposite directions and you’ll soon see diamond shapes start to emerge, sometimes the thread at the back needs to be cut to get the diamond shape to emerge. Once done, press the piece well, then stitch the buttons or beads to finish the origami quilt.
