The best-flavored chicken, in my opinion, would be Nashville’s ultimate hot chicken! This spicy and crispy golden brown goodness is the perfect combination of flavors you’d ever want in a fried chicken. I’m so glad that grandbabycakes posted this recipe on YouTube, now it’s easier to prepare my favorite chicken at home.
Fried Chicken Batter
Nashville Hot Mixture
Step 1
In a medium-sized bowl, add in the buttermilk and hot sauce, then whisk them together until uniform and set aside. Prepare a paper bag or Ziploc bag, then add the flour, cornstarch, seasoned salt, paprika, cayenne pepper, black pepper, garlic powder, and onion powder, give it a good shake to mix the ingredients well. Dip each piece of chicken into the flour mixture, then into buttermilk, and back into the flour mixture. Then, place each piece on a baking sheet to rest for 15 to 20 minutes until the coating has set.

Step 2
Place a cast-iron skillet or heavy bottom skillet on a stove over medium-high heat, then pour in the oil up to about 2 to 2½ inches high. Then, turn on the oven and preheat to 275 degrees. Start frying four pieces at a time and cook each side, make sure you don’t overcrowd the pan. Remove the chicken from oil and transfer it to paper towels or rack to drain. Once completely drained, place the fried chicken on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper, then place it inside the warmed oven while finishing the other chicken pieces.
Step 3
Once you are done frying all chicken and placing it in the oven to keep warm, whisk together 1 cup of the frying oil you used to fry the chicken, cayenne pepper, brown sugar, chili powder, garlic powder, and smoked paprika until fully combined. Then, remove the chicken from the oven and brush the hot mixture over all of the pieces of chicken.
