Supplies

  • Yogurt, plain or full-fat
  • Milk
  • Raw honey
  • Sliced cucumber
  • Apple cider vinegar
  • Baby wipes
  • Frozen veggies
  • Clean towel
  • Gauze

Directions:

#1: Yogurt

Yogurt contains fat and proteins that are helpful in reducing inflammation, especially refrigerated ones because they reduce the heat of the burn, and offer instant relief. Simply apply the yogurt directly to the sunburnt area, then leave it for a few minutes or until you’re ready to remove it, and take a cool shower to rinse it off. Pat the sunburnt skin dry and make sure to not rub it to avoid irritation.

#2: Milk

Just like yogurt, milk also contains protein, fat, and pH level that works as an anti-inflammatory agent. Grab a clean towel, then soak a small part in milk, then apply it to your sunburnt skin for about 15 to 20 minutes every few hours, or you can also try brewed and chilled chamomile tea instead, it is also known to have antioxidants and anti-inflammatory properties.

#3: Raw honey

This may help reduce pain and infection, and it could also help your sunburn heal faster. Simply apply a thin layer of raw honey directly to the sunburnt area, then wrap it with gauze, and once ready to remove, rinse it gently with water.

#4: Sliced cucumber

You can directly place the cucumber slices on the sunburnt skin to soothe the burn, or you can also soak the cucumber slices in water instead. Place the cucumber water in the fridge, then let it chill for a couple of minutes or hours, transfer the water to a spray bottle, and spray it on the sunburnt skin. Chilled cucumber water is great for hydrating and cooling the skin.

#5: Apple cider vinegar

Dilute a tablespoon of apple cider vinegar with water, then add them to a spray bottle, and give them a good shake. Spray the solution on your skin to relieve the itch of a burn. The astringent properties in vinegar will help soothe the skin and it also works as an antiseptic and anti-inflammatory.

#6: Baby wipes

Baby wipes are known to be gentle on sensitive skin, but not only that, but they can also help moisturize your skin, as well as cool it. Simply dab or wipe it gently on the skin and change the wet wipes as needed.

#7: Frozen veggies

In a pinch, any bag of frozen veggies can be turned into a homemade ice pack, simply place a frozen bag in the center of a small towel, then wrap it nicely, and use it to soothe your skin. This will help absorb the heat from the burn and reduce swelling at the same time.
