Start by preheating the oven to 450F.
Add 1 1/2 cups of water, 1 tablespoon of salt, and 1 tablespoon of sugar in a mixing bowl. Mix until well combined.
Add 1 packet of dry active yeast and let it rest for 5 minutes until the yeast starts to form.
Mix 4 1/2 cups of flour and 2 tablespoons of oil into the mixture. Thoroughly mix until a dough forms. Remove the dough, then grease the bowl with the remaining oil. Place the dough back and cover the bowl with plastic wrap. Leave it in a warm place for an hour.
Divide the dough into 8 pieces equally. Roll each one into a thin rope, then twist the two ends to form a pretzel shape.
Fill a large pot with water, then add baking soda. Let it come to a rolling boil.
Boil each pretzel for 30 seconds per side, then transfer to a baking sheet.
Brush the top of each pretzel with eggwash, then sprinkle salt.
Place in the preheated oven and bake for 10 to 15 minutes or until golden brown. Serve and enjoy!
