  • Ruler
  • Fabric clips and pins
  • A pair of scissors
  • Marking pen or chalk
  • Measuring tape
  • Presser foot or iron

Directions:

Step 1:

Prepare a tea towel with a 19″ (48.2 cm) wide x 26″ (66 cm) long dimension, fold it in half, and cut across the center. Fold it lengthwise, find the center and using a pen or chalk mark 4 inches from the center and 3 inches beside it then repeat on the other side. Fold and match the 4-inch mark to the center, turn the ends in of the outer marks towards the center back. Pin in place and flip it over then press lightly with an iron.

Step 2:

For the fabric top, cut away the edges and square up to one end and cut 7″ wide x 15″ long, fold lengthwise in half then cut notches in the center. For the band, cut a 7.5″ wide x 8″ long fabric, fold into 4 sections then press with an iron. When the folded bottom edges are even, sew it with a 1/4″ topstitch.

Step 4:

Starting from the bottom, roll the towel tight half-up then line up the bottom edge of the fabric at the top edge. With a 1/2″ seam allowance, stitch across back tacking from start to finish. Go back to the edge and fold the seam allowance towards the center then sew right on top of the stitching. Repeat on the other side.

Step 5:

Pull out the tea towel and push out the rest of the fabric then pull each side of the band nicely. Crease the folded edges of the side opening with your hands, then flip the band to the front of the towel. Sew the top edge with a 1/4″ seam allowance while making sure to keep the band out of the way, pivot around the fabric, and continue along until your reach the top edge and finish the stitching. To use, hang with the band at the back then place the towel through the loop and pull.
