Materials:

  • fabrics (of your choice)
  • sewing thread (cotton or polyester)
  • ruler
  • clips
  • heat erasable fabric pen
  • sewing scissors
  • fabric scissors
  • pins
  • safety pins
  • elastic band

Directions:

Step 1

Start by making the body pieces of the scrunchie. Cut out a 26 in. wide and 4.7 in. long piece of fabric. Fold it in half and put some clips to the opening edge. Sew this part in the sewing machine. Next, lay down the fabric and fold the top part, making a flap-like fold, then fold the bottom fabric to the top overlapping the flap-like fold. Secure the openings on top with pins. Sew this part, making sure to leave a small gap so that you can flip the scrunchie inside out. After this, flip the scrunchie inside out by pulling the fabric in the gap.

Step 2

Next, cut a 6.7 in. long elastic band, then put a safety pin in one of the ends. Place the safety pin with the elastic band into the gap on the scrunchie, then carry it across. Tie the elastic band and cut the excess.  Finally, to close the gap on the scrunchie, sew a ladder stitch to it in the sewing machine. Your scrunchie is now ready!
