During the cold weather, one of the items that I always keep close and available is a heating pad. It’s effective in instantly providing your warmth and is perfect if your hands feel stiff because of the cold. However, this is not the only use of a heating pad, it is also best used for relieving muscle pains or swells.

Heating pads can range from budget-friendly to expensive, but you don’t have to trouble yourself with purchasing one from the store because you can easily make it on your own using items that you may already have available at home. This video tutorial by ehow on YouTube will show you how to make a DIY scented microwavable heating pad easily using an old sock.
Step 1
Get a large bowl and fill it with a cup of rice, then add 8 to 10 drops of your favorite essential oil, and mix them until evenly combined. Set the rice mixture aside, then get a long piece of sock, and mark sections about 4 to 5 inches apart.
Step 2
Fill the bottom of the stock with rice, then stitch straight across the first mark, and repeat the steps filling and stitching all of the sections.
Step 3
Once you’ve filled the sock to the top, stitch the opening closed, then place the heating pad in the microwave, and heat it on high for 1 to 3 minutes until warm.
