You don’t need to be an expert painter to create intricate and beautiful art pieces. All you need is a good technique and this simple and easy video tutorial by Daily Art on YouTube.

Materials:

  • Canvas or a piece of paper
  • Leaves, of different shapes, and sizes
  • Paint, red, yellow, and white
  • Paintbrush

Directions:

Step 1

Lay some newspaper or a simple piece of paper to cover your work surface, then place your canvas or paper on top, and start working on your leaf. If you want to easily paint a butterfly, use a large pointed tip leaf, paint it red at the base and yellow at the tip, and gently combine the 2 colors in the middle. Place the leaf with its painted side facing down on the paper, then lightly press it to transfer the paint, and carefully peel it off. Reapply the paint, then place it on the opposite side to create the upper part of the wings, just make sure that the leaf is in a tilted position and the tip is pointing outward and upward.

Next, switch to a smaller version of the leaf you used, then paint it using the same technique and procedure only this time add white paint at the tip so that they’re tri-colored, and create the lower part of the wings making sure it’s pointed towards the opposite direction. Now that you’ve completed the form of the wings, paint some details needed to complete the butterfly. Watch the video tutorial to find out what other forms and objects you can paint using this leaf painting technique.
