It’s that time of the year again when it’s perfect to host BBQ parties or simply enjoy a family gathering outdoors. Usually, you would see some households begin to build or assemble their firepits or grills around this time, while some are preparing to go camping. Whichever activity it is you decide on, one thing’s for sure, you will need to keep a fire starter with you to make lighting up a fire easier.

This DIY fire starter by TKOR on YouTube is a pretty convenient item to keep and it is very inexpensive to make because what you’ll be needing are only empty cans, cardboard, and some old crayons or candles. The flame of this fire starter can last over an hour which is more than enough to keep the fire going. Learn how to make one now by watching the video tutorial below.

Materials for DIY Fire Starter:

  • Empty drink cans
  • Corrugated cardboard
  • Scissors
  • Crayons or old candles

Step 1

Carefully cut the bottom inch of the can, then make sure to keep the cut as clean as possible, and do the same thing with the second can but make it a few inches taller.

Step 2

Fill the larger can with crayons or old candles, then heat them for a few minutes until melted, and while waiting, build the fire starter.

Step 3

Cut the cardboard casing or corrugated cardboard into smaller strips about an inch wide, it should match the height of the can, then roll the pieces so tight that they barely fit inside the can.

Step 4

Fold another piece of scrap cardboard in half, then cut a slit down the middle, and push it into the center of the roll, it should resemble petals.

Step 5

Now, carefully pour the hot wax over the roll, then set it aside to cool for a few minutes until set, and your fire starter is ready to use.
