Summer is one of my favorite seasons because I love outdoor activities and catching up with friends, but there are times when it becomes unbearable, especially when it becomes too humid or hot. I remember having trouble sleeping because it felt very uncomfortable, and at that time my air conditioner broke and I couldn’t get it fixed immediately.

That’s when I remembered a project that my Sister and I made after seeing a tutorial on YouTube, and it’s similar to this DIY air conditioner by SARAY GEAR on YouTube. This project saved me the entire week until I got my air conditioner fixed, it was super helpful, and that’s why I decided to also share this project in the hopes of helping anybody in a similar situation to me.

Materials for DIY Air Conditioner:

  • Mini electric fan
  • Styrofoam cooler box
  • Pipe
  • Elbow pipe fitting
  • Saw
  • Cutter, X-Acto knife, or similar
  • Pencil

Step 1

Place the cover of the mini fan front side down on one side of the lid of the cooler box, trace around the fan’s shape, and then carefully cut it out. Do the same steps and make 4 holes on the opposite end for the pipes, then attach the elbow pipe fitting to the pipe, and cut out the excess making sure it’s just enough to fit the height of the lid as shown in the video.

Step 2

Now, insert the mini fan into the hole in the lid with its front side down, then insert each pipe piece into the holes on the opposite end as well. You can also put some plastic or paper strips on top of each pipe, then put ice blocks inside the cooler box, close the lid, and turn the fan on.
