I have tried making mashed potatoes before and they are an amazing side dish that goes well with chicken, beef, or pork. But, my favorite version so far is this recipe by CleanFoodCrush by Rachel Maser on YouTube. The twist to this simple mashed potato is just a few cloves of garlic but it did a lot of improvement to the taste and flavor of the dish.

You can make this in a slow cooker or crockpot which makes it a very convenient dish to prepare, especially for busy people or during busy days. With that said, this is the perfect side dish to include on your holiday menu, just dump them in your crockpot and allow them to cook while preparing other dishes that you want to serve to the table. Learn how now.

Ingredients for Garlic Mashed Potatoes:

  • 2 pounds of Russet potatoes
  • 2 pounds of Yukon gold
  • 4 cloves of garlic, smashed
  • ½ tsp of sea salt, plus more to taste
  • ½ tsp of freshly ground white pepper, plus more to taste
  • 1¼ cups of bone broth or vegetable broth
  • 1 cup of milk, plus more until desired consistency
  • ¼ cup of clarified butter or ghee
  • A small handful of curly parsley, to garnish

How to Make Garlic Mashed Potatoes:

Step 1

Peel off the skin of the potatoes, then chop the potatoes into 1-inch cubes, and place them in a 3.5 to 4 quarts slow cooker. Smash the garlic cloves and add them to the crockpot, then season them with salt and pepper, and pour in the broth.

Step 2

Stir everything until well combined, then put the lid on the slow cooker, then cook the potatoes on a high setting for about 4 to 5 hours or until very tender. Once the potatoes are done cooking, remove the lid, then add the clarified butter or ghee and milk, and remove the garlic or leave them in depending on your taste.

Step 3

Put the lid back on the slow cooker, then cook it for an additional 30 minutes or more until everything is hot. Using a potato masher, start mashing the potatoes in the pot, then season it with salt and pepper to taste, and set the slow cooker in a warm function to keep warm or serve immediately. Garnish with parsley and enjoy!
