#1: Tackle Big or Visual Clutters First
It’s easy to get discouraged when there’s a whole big mess you have to deal with, but there’s one little secret to motivate yourself to clean. Start by removing all of the noticeable clutter which is often located in plain sight, they are usually quicker to clean, and you will see results immediately. Go through all the open surfaces and clear all of the mess you can find, it can be a kitchen countertop, bathroom sink, or even your hallway where clutter can build quickly.
#2: Keep a Clutter Box Everywhere
You might have experienced before having guests that are about to arrive soon and you end up frantically trying to hide all the mess scattered all over your house. This will cause you to forget where you put everything and after looking at the box, you can lose all the motivation to clean. You can avoid this from happening by putting a clutter box per room, you can drop all of the mess and items that you can find randomly lying around in those boxes.
#3: Deal with Dirty Dishes as Soon as Possible
If you have a dishwasher, then load the dirty dishes right away, and wash them clean. If you hand wash your dishes, then soak them in the sink immediately and they will be easier to tackle.
#4: Clean From Top to Bottom
First, wipe down all the shelves, cabinets, and other high surfaces, then gradually move down to the floor. By far, the floor is the largest horizontal surface in the house that demands extra attentive cleaning. Fortunately, modern steam mops can help you do it quickly and efficiently.
#5: Implement the “Two-Minute” Rule
You shouldn’t wait until there’s trash everywhere in your house and a lot of clutter is scattered all over the place. Clean up even if you notice just a little bit of dirt because keeping everything tidy is always easier than spending the whole weekend cleaning. Remember, if it takes less than two minutes to clean, then do it now. If you spill something, clean it up right away, if you see something lying on the floor, pick it up and put it away immediately.
