  • 2¼ cups of Dutch-processed cocoa powder
  • 3 tsp of baking soda
  • 3 tsp of baking powder
  • A pinch of kosher salt
  • 1½ cups of melted butter

  • 2¼ cups of cocoa powder
  • 1 tbsp of pure vanilla extract
  • A pinch of kosher salt
  • ¾ cups of heavy cream, plus more if necessary
  • 4 cups of semisweet chocolate chips, divided

Step 1

Preheat your oven to 350°F, then line 3 8-inch round cake pans with parchment paper, and grease with nonstick cooking spray before setting them aside. In a large mixing bowl, add the flour, sugar and brown sugar, cocoa powder, baking soda, baking powder, and salt, then whisk them all together until uniform, add the melted butter, eggs, coffee, buttermilk, and vanila, and continue to whisk them until well combined and smooth.

Step 2

Pour the batter in the 3 prepared cake pans evenly, then place them in the preheated oven, and let them bake for about 35 minutes or until a toothpick inserted at the center comes out clean. Once done baking, let them cool down completely on a wire cooling rack, then unmold, and prepare the frosting. In another large mixing bowl, add the butter, powdered sugar, cocoa powder, vanilla, and salt, then beat them together until combined, add the heavy cream, and continue to beat them together until creamy or medium-stiff peaks starts to form.

Repeat the same process with the remaining cake layer, then use the remaining frosting to cover the whole cake completely, and then press the chocoalte chips around the top and sides of the cake as shown in the video. Melt the remaining chocolate chips in the microwave, then drizzle it all over the cake, and serve. Enjoy!
