I’m always thrilled when I discover new quilt projects that I can try for the weekend, and my most recent favorite is this one by Jordan Fabrics on YouTube. This beautiful chain link quilt is very easy to make and is perfect for beginners who want a bit of a challenge.

The steps to making this quilt are taught very clearly and straightforwardly that failing is simply not an option, I’m sure that you can make this perfectly even on your first try. Read the instructions below to learn how now and watch the video tutorial as well for more details.

  • Assorted print fabrics
  • Background fabric
  • Ruler
  • Marking pen, pencil, or chalk
  • Scissors or rotary cutter and a cutting mat
  • Needle and thread
  • Iron, for pressing
  • Sewing machine

How to Make a Chain Link Quilt

Step 1

Download the pattern here, then cut the fabrics to size, and then get 1 background strip and 1 print strip. Lay them with their right sides facing, then stitch them down on each side, and cut them into triangles as shown in the video.

Step 2

Press the seams toward the darker fabric and cut off the nubs, then place a background square above one side of a print rectangle with their right sides facing, and stitch them diagonally from corner to corner.

Step 3

Trim off the excess layers, then press them open, and make a matching half-square triangle. Arrange the pieces together along with a background square into a block as demonstrated in the video, then stitch them together, and press the seams as you go.

Step 4

Make the side pieces, then continue to build the block until complete, and then make more blocks. Piece 4 blocks together to form the chain link and then finish the quilt however you want.
