This version of the classic carpenter’s star from Missouri Star Quilt Company on Youtube is so quick and easy to do! This quilt project is perfect for beginners and will only need 10” squares of precut fabric. It is often made with diamonds, but this tutorial will teach you how to make it with half-square triangles! Learn the step-by-step instructions by watching the video tutorial below.

Materials:

  • 1 pack 10″ print squares
  • 2 & 1/2 yards of background fabric
  • 1 & 1/2 yards border fabric
  • 7 & 3/4 yards backing fabric
  • 3/4 yard x binding fabric

Directions:

Step 1

Put two contrasting squares right sides together and draw a line side to side and sew on both sides. After sewing, cut it diagonally from corner to corner and press it open. You’re going to make eight sets of these for a total of 16. The other ones you have to make next are the blocks sewn on white. For this, take a 10″ white square and a 10″ printed square. Draw a line from corner to corner and sew on both sides. You’ll get two of these out of each square. So for the print on white, you need 16 squares to make a total of 32 half-square triangles. Then, you’re going to need some 9 & 1/2″ white squares for a total of 16 of those.

Step 2

Now for the layout, start laying out the quadrant just one quarter because if you have four of these, you’re going to put it together like a big four patch. So start with four rows of four in each row to make one quadrant. Put these quadrants together and your quilt top will be finished.
