Christmas decorating is an annual tradition at every home, some may be using new sets of decor or replacing old ones, but if you’re reusing those that you’ve used the previous years, then you must have a pretty dull, worn-out, or dusty ones depending on how you stored them or the condition they were kept in for the year. Luckily, there is an easy hack that you can do to revamp or improve your decor using a product that you would usually use for cleaning, and that is Borax!

What’s even better is that you can do this for your new sets of decor, too, and I guarantee you they will become even more beautiful. All you have to do is to soak your ornaments in the solution overnight, then remove them the next morning, and allow them to dry completely. This works because the Borax sticks to the ornament and crystallizes overnight which adds the sparkling effect to your ornaments. Watch this video tutorial by Our Upcycled Life on YouTube now.

Step 1

Get a large measuring cup, then add ⅓ of borax for every 2 cups of boiling water, and stir them until fully dissolved. Pour the solution into a large mason jar filling it up to the top, then hang the ornaments to a skewer, and submerge them to the solution using the skewer to hold them up in place.

Step 2

For poinsettias, flowers, or leaves, submerge them in a solution in a large container, then leave them overnight as well. The next morning, remove them from the solution, then let them air dry, and hang them on your tree.
