Kitchen towels are very important to me, and I even have a couple of them at home, you can purchase ones that you can hang easily anywhere in your kitchen, but there are kitchen towel designs that I want that don’t have those convenient features. Which is why I have to improvise and sew one on them instead, and luckily there are a lot of tutorials that you can find online.

The one that I used is this one by Miarti – Sewing Tips on YouTube because it’s very easy to follow, especially for newbie seamstresses, and it is a rather quick project, too. The fact that it’s not time consuming has already convinced me of this sewing project, but what made me more excited is that you can actually yield 2 kitchen towels from just 1 with this method.
Step 1
Cut off the elastics on the kitchen towel, then fold it in half crosswise, and cut it apart in two. Take 1 piece of towel, then fold it across in half, and mark the midpoint. Unfold the piece, then mark 10cm or 4 inches from each side of the midpoint, and mark 8cm or 3 inches after each 10cm point. Fold over the 10cm and 8cm points as shown in the video, then clip them securely in place, and give them a good press. Flip it over, then stitch the top edges together, and set it aside.

Step 2
Cut the cotton fabric to 20x19cm or 7.8×7.4 inches, then flip it over so the wrong side is up, and fold over both sides toward the center making sure the edges are lined up nicely. Press it down, then fold it in half, press again, and stitch them along both longer edges. Cut cotton fabric to 18x38cm or 7×15 inches, then fold it in half lengthwise, and mark the midpoint. Unfold the piece, then fold it over crosswise, and mark the midpoint before unfolding.
Step 3
Lay the pieced cotton band over the cotton fabric with their right sides up, then line up the edges to the midpoint marking, and stitch it on the shorter sides. Fold the piece over with its right sides facing and edges lined up, then stitch down the sides just the same length as the band inside, and sew the towel to the cotton piece. Turn the piece right side out, then topstitch all around the cotton fabric, and add a decorative label if you want.
