For the basic pinwheel pattern, the tips of the blades are just straight, but for this version, they are all pointed. That alteration made a huge difference in how the block turned out. It is definitely more interesting, right? All the pinwheel looks like they are all connected.
Making this block is easy. Just as long as you know how to snowball the corners, you can finish the block with ease.

Get a 2 1/2″ strip, then cut 4 pieces of 4″ rectangles and 4 pieces of 6″ rectangles. From your background fabric, cut a 4″ strip and 2 1/2″ strip. Cut the 4″ strip into 4″ squares, then cut the 2 1/2″ strip into 2 1/2″ squares.
Get the 2 1/2″ rectangles, both the 4″ and 6″, then snowball the corners. Fold the 2 1/2″ squares in half diagonally to make a crease for each one. Place one square on one end of the rectangles and sew directly on the diagonal lines. Trim the excess and iron it open. All your long blocks have to go the same direction, then all your short blocks go to the opposite direction.
Get one 4″ block, one long block, and one short block. Sew them just like in the photo below. Repeat to make a total of four blocks.
Arrange the four blocks just like in the photo below.
