This double disappearing 9-patch block variation by Teresa DownUnder is one of my favorite beginner-friendly blocks. It’s super easy and quick to do and only requires 5-inch squares. I bet you’ll enjoy making these! Watch the end part of the video below to see other patterns you can create using this block. Happy sewing.

Using five pieces of 5″ squares in one print and four pieces of 5″ background squares, make a 9-patch block, alternating the squares for each row. See the photo below for the arrangement.
Using five pieces of 5″ squares in matching print and four pieces of 5″ background squares, make a 9-patch block, alternating the squares for each row.
Cut one 2 1/2″ strip off each side of the first 9-patch block. Repeat the same process with the second block.
Swap the strips over the two blocks. So the strips from the second block will go to the first block and vice versa.
Sew the top and bottom strips to the center square first, then press them flat and trim off excess fabric. Next, sew the left and right strips with a quarter of an inch seam allowance, press them flat, then trim off excess fabric again.
Get one block and mark the middle for each side. Next, cut them in half in both directions. Rotate the top left and bottom right 180 degrees. Pin in pairs and sew them with a quarter of an inch seam allowance. Lastly, sew them together. Repeat the process with the second block.
