Hand embroidery can be confusing and tricky, however, this hair comb hack speeds the process up on how to make a woolen flower. Crafts & Ribbon Art’s tutorial on YouTube makes this flower look easy. There are no crochet hooks needed. I love how creative this is and some may have these materials already laying around at their house. This woolen flower can be attached to any crafts or decorations you have. I would attach this to a pocket bag or backpack for my little cousin or niece. You can even attach this woolen flower to a sweater too.

Materials:

  • 2 different colors of yarn
  • hair comb
  • beads
  • ruler
  • scissors

Directions:

First, take your hair comb and start at the second comb slit with your first colored yarn until you reach 6cm. Then, wrap it around 5 times and make a knot in the middle. Grab your second color and start at the slit under the first one at 4.5cm long. Continue to wrap around the comb 4 times. Make a knot like the first yarn and push down the bundle to tie another knot to keep the two colors together.

Second, take the yarn off of the hair comb. Insert a needle and yarn through the holes and sew them together until it becomes one whole flower petal. Repeat this until you get 6 flower petals.

In the end, I love how she added pearl beads to the end of the flower petals. It gave a nice pop and touch to the flowers. Overall, I think this tutorial did a nice job of showing how to use a hair comb for a hand embroidery design. There are many tutorials out there that use everyday materials as a hack. It’s super convenient and inexpensive which saves a lot of time.
