Make use of old wool sweaters and turn them into wool dryer balls that would be useful when it’s laundry time. Prodigal Pieces tutorial on YouTube is very easy to follow along with and she gives good instructions. Some of the instructions and steps are on the screen with the video, which I do appreciate a lot just in case I mishear a step. Dryer balls are so handy because they reduce the dry time of laundry and last a long time. This could help save some money for those that go through dryer sheets easily. It only takes about 4 tools and supplies to create this from upcycled sweaters.
First, take the old sweater and turn it inside out. Look for a good seam that has a braided matching point at the edge. There will be a thread stitched between the two panels, and snip it slowly and carefully. Do the same to remove the sleeves too. Start unraveling the sweater. Continue to watch Prodigal Pieces tutorial on YouTube for full instructions and details.
Next, once the dryer balls are in a form of a ball and wrapped in pantyhose, place them into a pot of hot boiling water. Submerge and boil for about 10 minutes. Then, pour the entire pot of hot water and wool balls into a load of hot wash. Wash them in a normal setting.
I love this upcycled project because I’ve always thought dryer balls were cool but always bought dryer sheets instead. I have so many old wool sweaters that I have donated, but now I need to remind myself to make these. Also these would be nice gifts to give someone or a stocking stuffer.
