Day Beds are great for overnight guests or visits from family members, but they can cost big bucks if you buy them new. I had friends coming in from the UK right after the New Year and I needed a day bed or air mattress I couldn’t figure out which, but when I found this Day Bed tutorial on Youtube, I knew I had to make it! I started gathering my materials together immediately.

Materials:
Large TV Box
15 Large Boxes
Masking Tape
Duct Tape
Corner Braces
More Boxes (to fill the inside, use cardboard according to the hight you want)
Screws
Elmer’s Glue
Napkin
Crystal Buttons
Crystal Knob
Blue Velvet Fabric (4 Yards)
A Staple Gun
A Glue Gun
A Drill
You start by rolling the entire (1 side) of the TV Box surface with ordinary Elmer’s Glue.
Then reinforce that side with 2 more large (same size) pieces of cardboard and glue down, tape down (with masking tape), then set weights on it and let dry for 5 hours. This will be the back of the daybed.
Then take 10 large size moving boxes (from Walmart) trim them down and glue a stack of 5 (inside and out), repeat taping and weighting down, then let dry for 5 hours. These 2 sections will be your sides of the daybed.
Now attach the sides to the back with long screws and a drill.
Then reinforce your entire project by gluing napkins all over it, (like you are doing decoupage), let dry overnight.
Then apply your foam according to instructions in the video link using a hot glue gun.
Then follow the tufting instructions in the video to cover your beautiful daybed. The seat is made out of more cardboard boxes and a few layers of foam, the diamond detail is optional and this could definitely be made with a more rustic theme.
The tufting is classic Chesterfield and lends itself to any look, Happy Crafting! ;^)
