You will only need a flannel fabric and basic sewing materials for this project. It comes together so fast so better to prepare all the materials before starting. Watch the video tutorial below to learn the step by step instructions on how to make this.

Materials:

  • 1/2 yard of flannel fabric
  • reusable swiffer pad pattern
  • matching thread
  • fabric marking pen
  • scissors or rotary cutter
  • sewing clips or pins
  • sewing machine

Directions:

Step 1

Print out the free pattern and cut it out. After this, fold the pattern along the markings and set it aside. Next, fold the flannel in half, pin the pattern on the bias (45-degree angle to the selvage), and cut the fabric. Remove the pins, then using a pen, transfer the markings of the pattern onto the fabric. Pin the fabric in place. Repeat these steps with the smaller pattern piece. Now, fold along the first fold and cut two more pieces of flannel. Fold once more and cut the last two pieces of flannel.

Step 2

Once you’re done cutting, you’ll end up with 4 stacks x 2 flannel pieces each (a total of 8 flannel pieces). Transfer the center line marking from the pattern to each piece. Once done, sew along the two outer lines, backstitching at the beginning and the end. Next, layer smaller pieces on top of the larger pieces, aligning the center marks on all pieces. Clip in place, then flip the duster over and repeat. Sew along the center line through all layers. After sewing, cut 1/2″ wide strips in all layers of the washable shiffer duster using pinking or standard shears. Wash and dry the duster before using it to fluff it up.
