In this step by step tutorial, Miarti – Sewing Tips will teach you how to make slippers out of an old towel. It may sound like a complicated project but it’s actually super easy and perfect for all skill levels. Watch the video tutorial below to learn how!

Materials:

  • old towel
  • slippers (for tracing)
  • fabric marker
  • scissors
  • measuring tape
  • cotton fabric
  • 2 – 4cm bias inlay

Directions:

Step 1

Fold the towel in half and lay it flat on a surface. Place a pair of slippers on top and trace them using a fabric marker. Cut the pair out, then sew with a 1/4″ seam allowance around the edges. Next, fold one of the pair in half lengthwise and mark it. Align the marks at the folded edge of the towel, place your hand on the side of it, then mark it. Draw a half dome from that mark up to the top of the slipper. After this, mark the half of the slipper horizontally using a measuring tape, then draw a line with that mark on the towel. Draw another half dome from that line down to the bottom. Cut the outer dome, then cut the smaller one out. Place it over a cotton fabric, pin it in place, then cut it out.

Step 2

Sew just the inner edges of the pieces together. After this, open it up, then fold the right sides together with the seam in the center. Sew the bottom edges afterward. Next, open up the project with the cotton fabric inside, then pin the upper edges in place. Sew both the inner and outer edges around. Repeat these steps to make another one. Now, mark the center of the slipper, clip them together with the sole piece you made earlier, and then sew around the edges. Repeat these to the other pair. To finish, sew a 4 cm with bias inlay at the bottom lining of the slippers.
