All households must’ve experienced a broken basket once or twice in their life. Oftentimes, we just throw it out in the trash thinking it no longer has any purpose, but that was a waste because there is a way to save, repurpose, and recycle a broken basket. So if your someone interested in crafts, sewing, or repurposing, then this tutorial is for you. Today in this tutorial, you’ll learn how to turn your broken basket into an adorable handmade picnic basket! Of course, it wouldn’t be possible if not for the creative mind of SULTANIN OYUNCAK ATÖLYESİ via YouTube. Without further ado, let’s head on to the procedure.
Step 1
Get your broken basket and cut the top part that’s broken, leave at least the lower half part. Cover the outer part with jute fabric, fold and tuck neatly, then secure with hot glue. Cut the cord rope the same size as the total width of the basket (start from the top side, through the bottom, and to the other top side), then attach one end on the jute fabric inside the top of the basket, do layers and cover all over one side. Measure the length of the basket in the same process as the previous one, then attach one side.

Step 2
Start weaving the cord ropes, cut the excess, and secure the ends with hot glue. Attach a jute fabric around the rough edges to cover the places where the cord ropes were glued. Fold and crease the top and bottom edges of the jute fabric before securing it with hot glue. Make two marks in the middle on each side with about ½ inch gap, then insert a wooden stick through it, and attach with hot glue. Trace the top of the basket onto the binder cover and start cutting away the excess, cover it with a checkered picnic blanket, then the other side with jute fabric. Attach around the outer edge with cord rope, then set aside.
Step 3
Make a small triangular notch on each side of flexible plastic tubing, wrap it with cord rope then insert it in the basket to serve as the handle. Wrap with more cord rope and secure with hot glue. Measure the bottom and sides of the basket onto the checkered picnic blanket, make an allowance so that its ends are hanging outside the basket, sew the pieces together, as well as the seams with a ¼ inch allowance. Insert in the basket, then place the cover of the basket.
