There are a lot of ways to recycle old newspapers, but this woven basket from Milykong 밀리콩 on Youtube is my favorite one. This DIY basket is not just creative but also useful at the same time, especially if you have lots of small items that need to be kept in one place. It’s the perfect recycling project you can do this weekend with your family. Watch the video tutorial below to learn the step-by-step process.
Get your newspapers and fold them in the longest possible way to create your strips. Use your glue to stick the edge of the strip so it won’t open. Repeat this process and make as many as you need to make your DIY woven basket. (In this case, 18 strips were used and the width of each strip is around 2cm.) Next, lay 6 strips horizontally and place 6 on top vertically in the center. Now, place each strip alternately between the horizontal strips at the bottom. (Just like weaving.) After you finish this, it’s time to add strips. Just do the same process but fold the strip 90 degrees so you’ll be able to also weave it through the other side, making the walls. (You can use glue at this point to keep the strips in place.)

Once you reach the other end of the strip, put them together with tape. Take another strip again and add it on top, shaping the wall of the basket. Repeat this process until you reach your desired height of the basket or until you run out of strips. Just make sure to put each strip alternately, just like weaving. When you’re done, cut off the excess strips on top, leaving around 2 cm on each strip, then fold it and fix it with tape. Your basket is now ready to be used.
