Day Beds are great for overnight guests or visits from family members, but they can cost big bucks if you buy them new. I had friends coming in from the UK right after the New Year and I needed a day bed or air mattress I couldn’t figure out which, but when I found this Day Bed tutorial on Youtube, I really enjoyed watching the process that Youtuber @LauraKampf goes through to describe exactly how she made this DIY Sofa Bed. She first builds a little model out of cardboard and taped it together to get all her schematics correct then writes up a plan of action, including materials and the width and length of every curve and contour of this awesome sofa bed. Her plan included a large storage area that runs behind the entire back of the sofa that can house blankets and pillows while the bed portion is not being used. The plan also includes a magazine book rack compartment on the bottom side that makes this sofa bed really useful for guests to entertain themselves if they are having trouble sleeping.

Materials:

  • Plywood
  • Nails
  • AHammer
  • Hinges
  • A Jigsaw

Every piece of this DIY sofa bed was made with precision and the greatest of care by Laura. She cut each piece of plywood and sanded it.

This a nifty photo that exhibits how great the back blanket storage compartment is and also shows how useful the side entertainment compartment is. The actual sofa does not have a foam back but it works just fine with pillows.

I love this video and I look forward to making this.

Since I lover experiments, I’ve alwaysnloved to create, paint, as well as cook and style food. I feel in love with DIY as soon as I discovered it and could not have been more excited when I learned I could share projects with people around the world. Taking photos is a passion of mine, as is design and painting with oils. I love holidays and celebrations, crafting cute little gifts and serving up at least one new recipe I am excited about.
