Jean jackets are one of my go-to pieces in my wardrobe because you can dress it up or down. This DIY patchwork jean jacket by coolirpa on YouTube shows how simple it is with a step by step tutorial on how to create the many possibilities to use your old jeans. I’m sure there are a bunch of people out there that have old jeans in their closet that they cannot fit anymore. So, this DIY sewing project comes in handy to create a fashion staple for your everyday outfits. There’s a lot of sewing in this project depending on how many different patches you’d want to add to your jacket.

Supplies:

  • Old Jeans (different shades)
  • Jean jacket or button-up shirt (for the jacket base)
  • Fabric Clips
  • Fabric Scissors
  • Fabric Marking Pen
  • Seam ripper
  • Clear Ruler
  • Rotary Cutter
  • Rotary Cutting Mat
  • Universal Needles
  • Ballpoint Needle

Directions:

First, take apart your shirt or jacket from the side seams, and underarms. Cut out random rectangles and square pieces of different sizes from all of your jeans.
It’s always good to keep the cuts on the larger side, so you can reshape them when you organize them on your shirt.

Overall, I love this patchwork jean jacket, and I’ve been wanting to buy this. However, after watching this tutorial, it’s easier than I thought it would, and it would save me so much money too. It would be cool to create my own patchwork jacket because I can be creative and place the different jean cut-outs based on personal preferences.
